Dear Parent(s) and Students,

The Curriculum Assistance Program (CA) has been designed to provide support with academics and the remediation of basic skills. We will provide instruction in various academic areas such as  test-taking strategies and organization skills as well as social emotional learning areas such as , self-determination and building positive relationships.  Additionally, the class is designed to support students in their general education courses through small group and individual instruction..

We recommend students and parents review and become familiar with Athens Drive Magnet High School and Wake County rules and policies stated in The Student Handbook. Please review this handbook to see updates in school wide policies.

In order to ensure an environment that is conducive to learning, expectations and guidelines for Curriculum Assistance classes will focus on the following guidelines:

  • Come to class on time and prepared to work. Tardy policy will be followed.
  • Be respectful of all persons.
  • Electronic device usage must be teacher approved
  • Electronic devices should be used for academic use only
  • Food and beverages, other than water, must be teacher approved.
The following is a list of necessary student supplies needed for class We do have a WISH LIST of the following items:
  • one planner/agenda/assignment book
  • one 3-ring 1” notebook with dividers or plastic 2 pocket folder
  • notebook paper
  • Three Pens and three pencils
  • ream of white copy paper
  • box of tissues
  • notebook paper
  • Germ-X hand sanitizer

Curriculum Resources – students should be using these resources throughout the school year:

  • Khan Academy, DeltaMath and I-Ready: Math resource with videos, instruction and quizzes to help students understand math concepts.
  • Read Works and Common Lit: Online resource to build reading and writing skills
  • No Red Ink and Quill: Online resource for writing mechanics and proofreading
  • PSAT and ACT Support:

Helpful Hints for Student Success:

  • Obtain a PowerSchool’s login to review your student’s grades on a regular basis.
  • Attend our Athens Drive Fall Open House on Thursday, September 5th at 5:30 pm.
  • Refer to the Athens Drive website for current information on classes and activities.https://www.wcpss.net/athensdrivehs
  • Academic Help: Each Wednesday students will have access to additional time after each class to get more instruction in areas of need. (refer to bell schedule on ADHMS website) Students who have missing work, a grade below 75%, or require further small group intervention are required to stay in class during this extended academic time.
  • Daily attendance is crucial to academic success
  • Students are expected to uphold the Athens Drive Academic Integrity Policy.

Dates to be aware of:   Teacher Work Days for the Fall semester are September 30, October 9, October 31, November 1, December 20, January 2-3.

Grading Policy: Grades will largely be based upon journal goal reflections, agenda completions, PowerSchool’s grade sheets, common assessments, CA activities, notebook checks, and class work.  Grades are calculated as follows:

Daily Activity (Daily Log, CA Activities, online skill practice)         50%

Academic Readiness (Agenda, Powerschool, Notebook)         10%

CA Assessments (unit or skill assessments, projects)                 40%

Wake County Grading Scale: A : 100-90            B: 89-80  C: 79-70   D: 69-60        F: 59-below

  • Missing Work: Students have 10 days to turn in missing work without a deduction. After ten school days, a student’s submitted work will have a ten point deduction (one letter grade).
  • Make-up Work: All work must be turned in and any missed assessments completed 10 days prior to the end of the quarter.
  • Students are expected to keep organized notebooks, maintain up-to-date agendas, and monitor their grades on PowerSchools outside of class time.
  • Students who miss online work in class, are able to work on these assignments independently outside of class.
