2nd Period Curriculum Assistance Class

On this page, I will keep a running post of any assignments, quizzes or tests that will be coming up.  

CA Assignment for the week:

This week will be all about REVIEW, REVIEW REVIEW!  Permission slips due by the end of the week so you do not need to show up on exam day. Failure to turn in a permission slip will mean that you will be in school on the 31st. failure to turn in a permission slip and not show up on the 31st, will result in a referral.

Friday, 5/25- FINAL EXAM!!!   Permission slips due by today!

We are in the home stretch and we are on our  last topic of the semester. For our last topic, students will be researching a career interest based upon their learning style and strengths using the Future 4 Kids website. The students will then create an Animoto documenting their journey as they reach their career goals. Students will be using technology and graphic organizers as well as reflecting on their choice over the next few weeks. There will be a rubric for this project. Students  will wrap up this project by May 18th. The following week will be the CA final.

Wednesday, 5/2-  Future 4kids website using graphic organizer, independent work.

Thursday, 5/3-   Future 4kids website using graphic organizer, Work on project, independent work.

Friday, 5/4- Work on project, notebook check, independent work.

This week, we will be working on team building activities. The assessment this week will occur on Friday as we break up into groups and create a drawing based upon the character traits we find in teambuilding and everyday life. MGS will be assigned for students who owe me work or quiz corrections.

Monday, 4/23- Vocabulary defintions, finish animotos, SPAN, independent work.

Tuesday, 4/24- Vocabulary sentences, discuss team building, independent work.

Wednesday, 4/25- Review vocab., team building actvity, independent work.

Thursday, 4/26- Vocab. quiz, discuss character traits, independent work

Friday, 4/27- EARLY RELEASE!! Teambuilding activity- counts as a quiz grade.

 The assignment for this week will be that each student create an Animoto video using a scenario about stress that they create. The scenario must include at least 1 physical characteristic of stress, 1 emotional characteristic or stress and 1 way to relieve stress.  This is due on Friday for a quiz grade.

Students will create a mnemonic strategy for one of their classes and integrate the use of technology using Prezi.

Tuesday, 4/10- Vocab. list 19 sentences, test taking strategies, independent work

Wednesday, 4/11- Vocab. list 19  review, work on mnemonics assignment, independent work

Friday, 4/13- Vocab. list 19 quiz, notebook check, mnemonics assignment due, independent work. Dance-A-Thon Tonight!

There are no individual assignments this week since this is a make-up week.

March 19-23: Leadership (to be done as a team)

“C” Level (choose 2)

  1. Create a foldable describing the characteristics of being a leader.
  2. Create a graphic organizer listing the rules your team has set for yourselves.
  3. Write a 1-page journal article relating leadership to life skills, organization, and/or self-advocacy.
  4. As a group, create a timeline documenting when your group will meet and work on this weeks activities.
  5. Write a paragraph journal entry for the week documenting your groups’ teamwork.
  6. Write a 1-page journal entry discussing what you hope to get out of this activity and how you will use leadership strategies in your school career.

“B” Level (choose 1)

  1. As a group, create a school cheer/dance to promote school spirit. Must be performed in front of the class.
  2. As a group, create a poster to encourage students to want to go to school at Athens Drive.
  3. Write a newspaper article stating your point of view on a school related topic.

“A” Level (choose 1)

  1. As a group, pair up with another group and have a debate on an issue that you feel is important to you as a student. The issue needs to be approved by your teacher. You must assign roles to your team members for this activity.
  2. Interview a person at school or in the community who is a leader. What are they a leader of? How did they become a leader? What skills do they possess? What skills do they think a leader should possess? Find out interesting information on this person and present your interview to the class.
  3. Find team building exercises that you can teach to the class. Follow up with a discussion about why you chose these activities and what the goal of each activity is. Make sure you get the class thinking!

March 5-9: All students will be working on a time management activity for a quiz grade on the website timeglider.com

Monday, 3/5- Vocab. list 15, SPAN, make up leanring styles assessment from last week, make up quizzes. Progres sreports go out tomorrow!!!

Tuesday, 3/6- ACT Day! 1st and 2nd period are extra long. We will meet in room 2912 until Monday 3/12! Vocab. activity, timeglider registration, independent work.

February 27- March 2nd: Students will take a Personality test and a Learning Styles test online this week. They will then compare and contrast their learning style and personality. This will count as a quiz grade and will be due by Friday!

Monday 2/27: Quiz on vocab., independent work, turn in overdue CA assignments.

Tuesday 2/28: New vocab. , independent work

Wednesday, 2/29: Vocab. activity, online learning styles test, independent work

Thursday, 3/1: review vocab, online personality styles test, independent work

Friday, 3/2: Compare and contrast assignment on learning and personality styles due, vocab. quiz, independent work.

Fey 20-24: Make up work. There is an optional CA assignment. Students have expressed interest in learning about an African-American who has made an impact on the lives of Americans. You can do this assignment and have it count as a quiz grade. This must be presented in written or oral form on Friday the 24th! You must give enough information about the person and how they have impacted the lives of Americans in order to receive credit.

Wednesday, 2/22- SPAN- progress reports go out 2/28 from all teachers! Review week 1 vocabulary, make up work, independent work

Friday, 2/24- Vocab. quiz, Optional CA assignment due, notebook organization.

February 13-17: Study Skills (choose 1)

  1. Create a foldable for study skills
  2. Find a newspaper article or magazine article and write a 2 paragraph summary or oral presentation relating to study skills
  3. Create an inspirational poster for the classroom about study skills

  1. Find an inspirational quote that relates to your goal and write 2 paragraphs about how the quote and your goal relate to one another.
  2. Write a plan for accomplishing your goal that you listed on the goal setting worksheet
